Shape the Future of Davis Together

Davis is evolving and you have the power to guide that change. After more than 20 years, we're updating our community's blueprint—the General Plan—that will shape Davis for the next generation. This isn't just another government document. It's our shared vision for the community we love.

What is a General Plan, and why is it important to you?

The General Plan is a policy document required by State law that serves as the City’s roadmap for land use and development decisions, conservation and meeting housing needs, among others. The General Plan is a key tool for influencing and improving the quality of life for residents and the conditions for business resiliency over the next few decades.

Why Now? Davis is Changing

Our beloved community faces new challenges and opportunities since the last General Plan was adopted in 2001 and amended in 2007:

Diverse housing options — Choices in housing should be able to attract young families, provide affordable by design housing for students and housing types that allow seniors to age in place. How can we create housing solutions that preserve Davis' character while welcoming new neighbors?

Climate reality — Record heat, wildfire smoke and drought are now part of life in Davis. How can we build a more resilient community that protects residents while reducing our environmental footprint?

Reimagining how we move — Our reputation for innovative, active transportation is a gold standard for communities seeking to reduce automobile dependency while improving quality of life. How can we create a transportation network that makes sustainable choices the easy choices?

A thriving local economy — Nurture local businesses, leverage our connection to UC Davis and create economic opportunities that benefit all residents.

Each challenge is also an opportunity to reinvent Davis for the better—but only if we face them together.
